有一天，两个和尚要过桥。接近桥头时，他们看到一位老婆婆正艰辛地走着。大师兄看了，便二话不说地背着老婆婆过桥。到了桥的另一端，大师兄把老婆婆放了下来，便与师弟（二师兄）继续上路。

走了有三里之多。这时，二师兄终于忍不住问大师兄：“师兄师兄！我们是出家人。不是男女授受不亲吗？为何你还背着老太太过桥呢？”

大师兄答道：“我早已把女施主放下，你怎么还没放下呢？”
